Nanyang Technological University, Monday, September 9, 2013 – The National University of Singapore (NUS) defended their women’s singles championship title in the Singapore University Games (SUniG) when Clare Fong beat Anne Tan of Singapore Management University (SMU) 9–4 in the final.

Both Anne and Clare were part of the national youth tennis team so were familiar with each other’s playing style. “It ultimately depends on whoever manages to play better and keep their cool on that day itself,” said Clare.

“Stressful,” declared Clare, when asked about her match. “We usually have very close matches and I know Anne can suddenly come back from behind so even though I was leading, I couldn’t just relax.”

Both girls exchanged deep and angled shots, making each other run from corner to corner. Eventually, Clare’s consistency saw her take the lead and win.
