Jalan Besar Stadium, Wednesday, August 21, 2013 – The Singapore LionsXII were held to a 2–2 draw by visiting Kedah in their opening group match of the Malaysia Cup.

A soft late penalty by Alen Guc of Kedah denied the home team the full three points in front of 6,800 fans.

LionsXII captain Shahril Ishak had opened the scoring in the 12th minute but Guc equalised in the 23rd minute.

1–1 at half time, Shahfiq Ghani scored from a free kick in the 66th minute to give the LionsXII a 2–1 lead before Guc’s late equaliser.

To add to the gloom, Shahril was substituted out with a knee injury.

“It’s definitely disappointing,” LionXII coach V. Sundramoorthy was quoted as saying on the lionsxii.sg website.

“It does feel like a loss when we drop points here, but I have to give credit to the boys – they fought very hard, they never gave up and I see them growing up with each game.”

The LionsXII next play Sarawak FA and Perak FA away. That will be followed by a home game against Perak on Saturday, August 31.
