Jalan Besar Stadium, Tuesday, July 30, 2013 – Adam Swandi, 17, is the youngest player in the 23-player squad that will play against Oman in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup qualifiers on August 14 at home.

The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) announced a list that included 10 players from the LionsXII side that won the 2013 Malaysian Super League. Three Young Lions players – Afiq Yunos, Sahil Suhaimi, and Anumanthan – have also been called up.

Fadil Salim (30), Noh Rahman (33), Qiu Li (32) and Indra Sahdan (34) are the only four players aged 30 and above who have been called up. 11 players are aged 23 and below.

Head coach Bernd Stange said: “It was not easy to finalise the squad but I am very pleased we have put together the team now. I am confident that these players have the capabilities to help the team achieve a good result against Oman. It is a well-balanced squad comprising experienced internationals and promising youngsters, including 10 players from the triumphant LionsXII team which won the Malaysian Super League title early this month.”

On the new inclusions, Stange said: “They have had a fantastic season for their respective clubs in the S.League, RHB Singapore Cup and Singapore League Cup campaigns, and they bring with them qualities which are very beneficial to the squad, as well as to the players themselves for their future.”

He added: “I am really delighted with the support from the FAS thus far, and we hope to see fans turn up to support us as we strive for a good result against a very strong Asian side in Oman at our stadium.”

The team will begin their preparatory training on August 3, and centralised training on August 10.
