Jalan Besar Stadium, Wednesday, July 24, 2013 – The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) announced today at a press conference that Malaysian-based AirAsia will provide a three-year sponsorship worth S$1.8 million.

The sponsorship includes flights for the Under-21, Under-23 and the senior national teams, National Football Academy (NFA) age-group teams and women’s team.

To celebrate the announcement of this sponsorship, AirAsia is offering Singapore football fans will also benefit from the sponsorship agreement, as AirAsia offers attractive travel packages for travelling fans supporting the team on away matches. In celebration of the partnership, AirAsia is offering special deals* to seven destinations in Indonesia, namely Bali, Bandung, Jakarta, Medan, Makassar, Semarang and Surabaya.

AirAsia Group CEO, Tan Sri Dr Tony Fernandes, said: “Sports sponsorship is a part of our ongoing commitment to nurture young talents and provide a platform for them to excel globally, and this sponsorship programme with the Football Association of Singapore is a perfect opportunity for us to demonstrate that dedication. It is not impossible to be the best in the world. With proper support and hard work, we could create our own football heroes and stars.”

FAS president Mr Zainudin Nordin expressed his delight at the new deal. He said: “This announcement represents a key landmark for the FAS, and we are absolutely thrilled to have concluded an agreement with an organisation of AirAsia’s calibre and reputation. We are really thankful to Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and AirAsia for their staunch support of football and we are looking forward to working closely with them to further promote the sport in the coming years. We are heartened by the endorsement of our footballing vision and programmes, including our youth development structure and players, from FIFA, AFC and leading European clubs. However, there remains much hard work ahead and we will continue to persevere and strive for success.”

Mr Zainudin added: “As we have always said, support from corporations is vital and will facilitate our ongoing efforts to raise our footballing standards and further enable us to expand our community and outreach initiatives. Going forward, we hope that more corporations will view sports, including football, as a key platform to drive brand awareness and equity.”

The sponsorship agreement takes effect from June 1, 2013 to May 31, 2016.
