Singapore Basketball Centre, Friday, July 19, 2013 — Woodgrove Secondary defeated Naval Base Secondary 30–10 in Round 1 of the North Zone C Division Girls’ Basketball Championship. The win gave Woodgrove Secondary a spot in the second round alongside Yishun Town Secondary, who holds a perfect 4–0 win-loss record.
Michelle Ng (#8) contributed a game-high 11 points to Woodgrove’s victory. Naval Base’s Gan Pei Ling (#12) poured in 8 points in the loss.
Woodgrove hounded Naval Base each time the ball was in their hands. Naval Base could not handle the defensive pressure and committed multiple turnovers on sloppy passing. Woodgrove led early and never looked back.
In the fourth quarter, Woodgrove held Naval Base scoreless while pouring in 17 points to seal the game with an eventual 30–10 victory.
Woodgrove’s captain Nurfarisha (#4) commented: “The team did well in the game today. We need to work harder for the second round because we do not know what to expect. We need to be better because our aim is to be champions.”
