Jurong Lake Park, Sunday, July 7, 2013 – Foo Gen Lin clocked 34 minutes 22.56 seconds to win the 10km open category at the Jurong Lake Run. Ang Chee Yong was second in 34:35.85 while Rai Dev also made the podium in third place, stopping the clock in 34:42.82.

Gen Lin, a Singapore permanent resident, won himself a cheque of S$1,500. Gen Lin also participated in last year’s edition where he came in fourth in the 6km men’s international category.

Colin Tung, who finished second in last year’s race, was fourth this time around in 35:17.45.

Kenyans swept the top three positions in the men’s 10km international category. Chirchir Hillary hit the tape in 30:34.69 while Peter Keter was second in 32:34.64. Langat Ken Kipkirui was third in 33:49.16.

Keter said he found the morning run slightly cooler and although he did not break his personal best, it was a good run nonetheless.

In the men’s 10km veterans category, Kek Hong Leng defended his title with a timing of 38:28.18. He was followed by Al Yeoh, who also finished second last year, in 38:44.11. Ralph Gomarsall was third in 39:53.22.

In the women’s categories, the morning warmth did not stop Yvonne Lin and Suzanne Walsham from winning another victory this year. Walsham won the 10km open race in 37:31.31. She was in second place by Anne Qi Hui who clocked 38:41.58 while Sue Corser was third in 40:54.13.

Lin won the 6km race in 24:30.41. Ng Yu Jun was second in 25:21.86 while Cheong Tsui Ying stopped the clock in 26:04.35 for third place.

This year’s Jurong Lake Run was flagged off at 7 a.m. by the deputy prime minister, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and the route took the runners through Jurong Lake Park, Chinese Garden and the Japanese Garden. The event saw runners taking part in three categories – 3km, 6km and 10km.
