Clementi Sports Hall, Friday, April 26, 2013 — Temasek Junior College (TJC) beat Jurong Junior College (JJC) 56–14 in the first round of the National A Division Girls’ Basketball Championship.

Within the first five minutes of the first quarter, TJC’s Anna Ng (#8) poured in six consecutive points to spark a 10–2 run. Not to be outshone so quickly, JJC answered with two baskets from their #4 and #8. However, a free throw and a basket by TJC saw them end the first quarter leading 13–6.

The second quarter was a low-scoring one. With under seven minutes to play, TJC’s player rotation sparked a 6–0 run. A pair of free throws by JJC’s #6 halted the run but they still trailed TJC 20–8 at half time.

The third quarter commenced with TJC scoring twice within the first four minutes to lead 24–8. After a series of free throws from both teams, a couple of substitutions saw TJC intensify their play. A three pointer from Bertha Lim (#9) sparked a 9–2 TJC run to end the quarter at 34–12.

The final quarter clearly belonged to TJC. TJC’s pressing defence limited JJC to just two points, which came from a pair of free throws by their #5. In dominating fashion, TJC went on a 22–2 run and sealed the game with a final score of 56–14.

TJC’s captain, Jamie Lim (#7), was very pleased with the win.

Jamie commented: “We played quite well, had a lot of spirit and really went all out to fight for every ball. The win was especially sweet given that we were not expecting much. Our team is made up of only six players with prior basketball experience, while the rest of the team are from other co-curricular activities.”
