Singapore Sports School, Wednesday, April 24, 2013 — Tan Jing-E of Methodist Girls’ School clocked a time of 1 minute 3.00 seconds to win the girls’ C Division 100 metres butterfly final at the 54th National Schools Swimming Championships. It broke the previous meet record of 1:03.57 set by Meagan Lim in 2010.

Jing-E commented: “I was nervous at the start, but I’m really happy that I broke the record. Praise God for the win!”

The 12-year-old is within striking distance of a long-standing national age group mark. The Under-14 record of 1:02.83 was set by Christel Bouvron way back in June 1998.

Taking home the silver and bronze medals were Deon Tan from Singapore Sports School and Daphne Tan from Raffles Girls’ School.

Deon finished the race with a time of 1:07.06 while Daphne clocked 1:09.47.
