Singapore Sports School, Tuesday, April 23, 2013 — Quah Zheng Wen of Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) won the boys’ A Division 200 metres freestyle gold at the 54th National Schools Swimming Championships in 1 minute 54.10 seconds, breaking the meet record by 0.27 seconds. The previous record of 1:54.37 was set by Raffles Institution’s Teo Zhen Ren in 2012.

Zheng Wen established an early lead and never relinquished it throughout the race, with his closest competitor at least five seconds behind him at the end of every lap. Matthaeus Lim, also from ACS(I), won the silver with a time of 2:00.95, while Kenneth Lim of Raffles Institution picked up the bronze in 2:05.01.

Zheng Wen, who made his Olympic debut in London last July, has a personal best of 1:51.76 in this event. It is also the National Under-17 record.
