Singapore Sports School, April 18, 2013 — St. Margaret’s Secondary emerged as B Division champions at the National Schools Fencing Championships with a total of 112 points. It was St. Margaret’s first title in fencing, having finished in fourth place for the previous two years.

Anastasia Karpova of St. Margaret’s clinched the epee gold medal, beating a Raffles Girls’ School fencer 15–11 in the final.

During the foil event, Pow Shu Shan of St. Margaret’s managed to take home a bronze medal after beating a Methodist GIrls’ School fencer 15–11.

The points awarded to these two fencers together with the scores of other fencers in the team resulted in St. Margaret’s first overall champions trophy.

“When I took the girls this year, I (have) always believed in their ability to achieve something big. It was a great result for the team and they have worked hard for it,” said the team’s head coach, Mr Dennis Leong.
