PESEB (formerly CCAB), Thursday, 11 April 2013 — Dunman High School beat Temasek Junior College (TJC) 2–1 (16–25, 15–18, 25–21) to continue their winning streak in the National A Division Volleyball Championship. Dunman High beat Serangoon Junior College (SRJC) 2–1 (25–22, 25–10, 25–12) in their first match.

Timothy Kong (#7), captain of Dunman High, felt that there is a lot for his team to improve on but overall, they had tried their best.

“It was a matter of which team wanted it (the win) more and not just how well we (Dunman High and Temasek) played. Hopefully, we can make it to top four,” said Timothy.

Meanwhile, Anderson Junior College (AJC) took home a 2–1 (28–26, 20–25, 25–20) win against Victoria Junior College (VJC).

Said Anderson’s captain, Wisely Yeo (#1): “It was an intense game as our opponents were very good and had high morale.”

Wisely added that Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) and Nanyang Junior College (NYJC) will probably be their toughest competitors this season.

Wisely shares the same sentiments as Pioneer Junior College (PJC) captain, Boris Tiong (#10), who thinks that HCI, NYJC, Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) and AJC are the strongest teams.

PJC suffered their first defeat in their opening match against ACJC, losing 0–2 (10–25, 24–26).

“We didn’t play our best today and we lost to ourselves,” said Boris.

“The highlight has to be when we trailed four or five points, then subsequently catching up and leading by five. We still have a chance of making it, as long as we win our other matches,” added the PJC captain, whose team’s goal is to reach the top eight in the competition.

Raffles Institution (RI) narrowly defeated Tampines Junior College (TPJC) 2–0 (25-23, 25–22) in their second match. This is Rafffles’ first win, having lost to VJC 2–0 in the first round previously.

Captain of Raffles, Leow Jun Jie (#8), thought that it was a good game, even though they had started slow.

“Actually, both teams (Tampines and Raffles) are similar as we lack experience but as long as you believe, anything is possible,” added co-captain, Samuel Chan (#7).

There are four groups in the championship. Group A consists of HCI, River Valley High School, Yishun Junior College and Innova Junior College. Group B has NYJC, St. Joseph’s Institution, Jurong Junior College and Catholic Junior College.

AJC, VJC, RI, TPJC and Meridian Junior College are in group C while ACJC, TJC, Dunman High, SRJC and PJC battle it out in Group D.

The top two teams of each group will proceed on to round two, followed by the semi-finals and final.
