Langkawi, November 7-10, 2012 — Team Heartbreakers of Singapore finished fourth in Division 3 at the 2012 Paintball World Cup Asia. The team brought back a total of nine medals from the event.

The team had finished eight in Division 4 in 2011.

Mohamed Naszrul bin Mohd Helmi, a member of Heartbreakers said: “Getting 4th is something we could only dream of initially.”

Team Heartbreakers were up against teams from 35 other countries and were one of 10 Singapore teams at the event.

“It’s the grind. It’s the early mornings on Sundays and an hour long train rides. It’s the suppressed hunger from a delayed lunch because we spent the whole afternoon training,” said Hafiz Asyraf, a member of Heartbreakers.

Kenny Leow, the proud captain of Team Heartbreakers, shared their long term plans upon this achievement.

“As of now we are planning to look for more sponsors to alleviate some of the expenditure for the team as well as new members to beef up the roster. We plan to stay in Division 3 for another year to deck up more experience.”

Other than that, Team Heartbreakers will resume trainings in preparation for the upcoming three legs of the Singapore Paintball Series in 2013.

There are more than 30 paintball teams in Singapore playing in the Series. However, considering that paintball has been around for 23 years, the progress in Singapore is slow compared to countries like Malaysia and United States where it is legal to own markers and where there is abundant space for paintball training.

“I hope this achievement can serve as a beacon to the relevant authorities that there are a lot of local home-grown talents out there fighting for our country despite all the regulations restricting their potential,” said Kenny Leow.
