ITE College East, Wednesday, October 31, 2012 — Republic Polytechnic (RP) won the Polytechnic-Institute of Technical Education (POL-ITE) Basketball Championship after putting together a perfect 5-0 win-loss record.

In their run to the title, they beat defending champions Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) 73-55 in their second last game.

RP are also the defending Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) champions.

Temasek Polytechnic finished in second place with a 4-1 record while NP (3-2) had to settle for third.

In the game between RP and NP played on Monday, October 29th, RP established a healthy lead in the starting minutes of the quarter but NP came back quickly to narrow the lead. RP led 18-15 after the first 10 minutes.

NP seemed to lose momentum in the second and third quarter after their good start in the first. Nethanel Ng (RP #5) gave RP a good start in the second quarter by scoring the first 10 points in the quarter, with two baskets coming from long range.

RP continued to build on that to show why they were favourites. They quickly pulled away with the lead on fast break attempts in the second quarter and continued to pull away in the third. By the end of the third quarter, RP had established a huge 26-point lead over NP.

Nethanel Ng (RP #5) had a game-high 29 points while Hiew Zi Hao (NP #12) scored a team-high of 12.
