Nanyang Polytechnic, Friday, September 14, 2012 — Sailor Elisa Yukie Yokoyama, 15, of Raffles Girls’ School won the Overall Best School Girl Award for 2012 at the National School Games closing ceremony.

Elisa won an Optimist gold at the 2011 South-east Asian (SEA) Games, one of four sailing gold medals Singapore sailors won at the Games.

In July 2012, Elisa was also crowned the Optimist world champion at the 2012 IODA (International Optimist Dinghy Association) World Championship held in the waters off the Dominican Republic.

Yukie beat out 19 other Best Girl award winners to clinch the overall award, which is given to student athletes with exceptional sporting achievements and exemplary conduct on and off the field.

The Best Team Award for girls was awarded to the table tennis Singapore Schools team that took part at the 2012 ASEAN Schools Games 2012. The team, comprising Wang Yi Ge (Manjusri Secondary), Wei Yi Fan (Manjusri), Yang Fei (Nanyang Girls’ High), Li Jia Xin (RGS), Ng Xue Qi (RGS) and Ang Wan Qi (Singapore Sports School) won two gold (team and doubles), two silver (singles and doubles) and two bronze medals (mixed doubles/singles).

More than 650 students from 100 schools also won National Schools Colours Awards at the ceremony. 165 of these students received their awards for representing Singapore Schools at the ASEAN Schools Games.

Another 1,317 students were also presented with the Zone Colours Award at the ceremony.

The National and Zone Schools Colours Awards are given to student athletes who have represented the Singapore Schools Team and their achievements in their respective sports.

50,000 students took part in the National School Games at the primary, secondary and junior college level this year.
