Yio Chu Kang Sports Hall, Wednesday, May 23, 2012 — Meridian Junior College beat Victoria Junior College 8-4 to qualify for the final of the National A Division Boys’ Floorball Championship.

Jarryl Chan (#13) of VJC scored a hat-trick while Marcus Kong (#89) of MJC went one better with four.

The explosive match began with a high tempo with VJC adopting a half-court press, absorbing MJC attacks and attempting to break on the counterattack.

A slick move saw MJC slice through the VJC defense with one-touch passes before the unmarked Marcus Kong (MJC #89) sent the ball into the VJC net from the blindside for a 1-0 lead. VJC tied it up but MJC got another goal to lead 2-1 after the first period.

VJC again managed to draw level at 2-2 but two further goals by MJC gave them a two-goal cushion heading into the final period.

VJC reduced the deficit to one but MJC came back with four straight goals to lead 8-3 in the final period. Jarry Chan had a late consolation for VJC.

VJC adopted a more defensive minded approach in the final period and this only invited MJC to take long range shots. A combination of both deadly finishing and incisive passing gave MJC the slight edge over VJC even as the VJC players were holding their positions well and maintaining a good level of discipline in their half.

With VJC desperate to absorb MJC pressure, they started launching aimless high balls into the opponents half and it was not long before MJC players adopted the same approach in their attempts to search for forwards in the VJC half.

Temasek Junior College beat Raffles Institution 4-2 in the other semi-final.
