Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Tuesday, April 10, 2012 — Annika Mock of CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh) won the C Division 800m final in a close finish at the 53rd National Schools Track and Field Championships.

Annika’s time of 2 minutes 34.70 seconds was just 0.13 ahead of Claudia Sng from Nanyang Girls’ High.

The championship record is 2:25.76 and was set by Lossini D/O Jeyapandiyen, then of Singapore Sports School, in 2004.

Celeste Goh of Sports School was third in 2:35.91.

Lim Peak Kee of CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ took the early lead in the race with Grace Ng of Sports School her nearest challenger for the first lap.

Annika and Peh Jia Wen of Commonwealth caught up with Peak Kee and Grace with 250m to go and started pulling away. Grace managed to hang on with the lead pack of five runners as Peak Kee fell behind to eventually finish 13th.

Annika led the race, heading into the final bend and that’s when Claudia made her move. She overtook Jia Wen and started to catch up with Annika who just managed to hold her off at the finish.
