Presbyterian High, Tuesday, March 20, 2012 — Anderson Secondary avenged their zonal loss to Xinmin as they beat the latter 2-0 (29-27, 25-20) in a Round Two, Group Y match at the National B Division Girls’ Volleyball Championship.

Anderson had lost to Xinmin during the North Zone semi-finals, resulting in the former losing their chance at winning the zone title. This time round, they overcame Xinmin to put themselves in an advantageous position.

Xinmin had started the first set on a good note as they pulled ahead to lead 7-4. However, Anderson caught up and gave Xinmin a tough fight. The lead changed hands several times before Xinmin pulled ahead to lead 16-11.

However, Xinmin seemed to have lost their form as Anderson charged right back to tie the score 21-21.

It was a nerve wracking fight to the end as the teams continued to be tied right till the 23-23 mark. Xinmin took the advantage when Anderson sent their serve out of bounds. However, a foot fault at the centre line sent the match into a deuce.

Anderson then took the advantage after blocking a spike by Ferlicia (Xinmin #10) but a ball handling error allowed Xinmin back into the game.

Both team continued in their attempts to outdo each other, saving set point after set point.

Anderson called a timeout at the 27-27 mark to organise a final push and it paid off as Jolly (Anderson #4) sealed the set by taking the next two points with her powerful spikes.

The teams saw a close start to the second set but errors by Xinmin midway allowed Anderson to lead 14-11.

Xinmin’s woes continued as Anderson continued running off with the lead. Soon, they saw themselves trailing 18-12, prompting a timeout.

Xinmin continued their fight but were unable to overcome the deficit. Anderson took match point after a drop shot by Lee Ting (#1). Kim Choo (Xinmin #7) managed to save the next point but a spiking error from the team gifted Anderson the final point.
