Jurong East Sports and Cultural Centre, Sunday, March 18, 2012 — The Singapore team comprising Joshua Lim, Chan Weiyu, Christian Lim and Jet Ng lost 27-45 to Hong Kong in the Boys foil’ finals.

In the Girls’ Foil event, the Singapore team from Z Fencing club scored Singapore’s solitary gold medal in the team events when they beat HKFS 45-42 on Saturday.

In an all-Hong Kong Boy’s Epee team final on Saturday, HKFS beat LW Fencing to bag the gold medal. Principal of the HKFS Mr Wong Tsan said: “Our purpose of coming to Singapore is to expose our kids to the demands of high level overseas competition, so to win secure a gold medal is beyond our expectations. The kids did very well today and we will continue to work hard.”

Hong Kong Fencing School also took home the gold in the Boy’s Sabre team event where they beat local club Pasir Ris Crest in the final.

Singapore’s epee team comprising Samuel Lee, Phua Helixman and Nicholas Mak also won a bronze when they lost 43-45 to LW Fencing in the semi-finals. The girls’ Epee team of Tasia Lee, Samantha Kwong, Fan Jin and Donna Lim also scored a bronze, when they lost to Hong Kong in the semi-finals.

In the final event of the day, the mixed team from Hong Kong secured yet another gold by beating local club Blade by a scoreline of 30-26.

Singapore won three golds, five silvers and 10 bronzes at the event.
