Presbyterian High, Wednesday, March 7, 2012 — Presbyterian High braved a second set comeback by St Hilda’s Secondary to win 2-0 (25-18, 25-19) in a Round One, Group C match at the National B Division Girls’ Volleyball Championship.

Presbyterian High finish on top of Group C and qualify for the second round while St Hilda’s have been eliminated after finishing bottom of the group with three losses.

Both teams had a shaky performance, with Presbyterian High scoring 24 points via 18 kills, one block and five service aces. St Hilda’s were not far behind with 18 points scored via 12 kills, two blocks and four service aces. Unfortunately, St Hilda’s committed a higher number of hit and defensive errors, as well as a notable 10 service faults to give Presbyterian High a much needed advantage.

St Hilda’s were the one who started the match in the driving seat as they raced ahead to lead 6-3. Presbyterian High had to continuously play catchup as even after levelling the score 3-3 and 6-6, St Hilda’s would pull ahead once again to lead.

It was a close fight as both teams were neck and neck. Presbyterian High called for a timeout at the 14-13 mark and saw the score level 14-14 after St Hilda’s served into the net.

From then on, Presbyterian High broke the stalemate and romped ahead.

They quickly established a 24-18 lead after a hit error by St Hilda’s. Michelle (Presbyterian High #14) then sealed the set after a powerful spike from the outside.

St Hilda’s started the second set with the lead once again.

Presbyterian High were forced to catchup and managed to level 8-8. However, two consecutive receiving errors by Amanda (Presbyterian High #11) saw St Hilda’s lead 10-8.

Presbyterian High fought hard to catch up and eventually drew level at the 13-13 mark.

From then on, both teams were point for point as the lead changed hands several times. It was only after the 17-17 mark did Presbyterian High pull ahead to lead 20-17 following a spate of defensive errors from St Hilda’s.

Presbyterian High did not look back as they continued forward, taking set point after Hui Min (Presbyterian High #5) saw her spike clip the net and fall into an empty spot.

However, Amanda (Presbyterian High #11) sent her serve out of bounds to hold off her team’s win. Presbyterian High did not have to wait much longer though as St Hilda’s subsequently sent their serve out of bounds as well to gift Presbyterian High the final point.
