Presbyterian High, Wednesday, March 7, 2012 — Anderson Secondary secured a spot in the second round after beating Yuying Secondary 2-0 (25-15, 25-20) in both teams’ final Group D match at the National B Division Girls’ Volleyball Championship.

Both teams had come into the match with a one win, one loss record and which ever team prevailed would progress to the next round.

Anderson encountered a shaky start as they allowed Yuying to run off to a 4-0 lead. However, the team quickly recovered and came back to tie the score 5-5 before taking the lead through a ball handling error by Yuying.

Anderson held on to their lead and pulled ahead to leave Yuying in their wake. Despite timeouts by Yuying at the 7-5 and 14-8 mark, they could not hamper Anderson’s advances and the latter eventually saw themselves leading 24-15 after a quick ball by Jolly (Anderson #4).

Jolly (Anderson #4) then sealed the set for the team after a spike to Zone Four of Fairfield’s court.

Anderson kept up their momentum and stormed ahead to lead 8-3 in the second set, prompting a timeout by Yuying.

Yuying reorganised themselves and closed in to trail by one point at the 13-12 mark and 15-14 mark. Both times, it was Jolly (Anderson #4) who prevented Yuying from levelling the score with her powerful spikes.

Yuying kept up their chase and continued to come within one point of Anderson, but a stroke of bad luck at the end saw Anderson pull away from the 19-18 mark to lead 24-20 following a spike from Denise (Anderson #7).

Denise (Anderson #7) subsequently sealed the match for the team after firing off a powerful serve which Yuying could not return.
