danceworks! acs primary

The ACS(P) dance team.

Toa Payoh Hub, Saturday, February 25, 2012 — Anglo-Chinese School (Primary) delighted the audience with a sharply choreographed, deftly executed routine, to win the annual Danceworks! competition.

Yishun Primary and Woodgrove Primary finished second and third respectively.

It was sweet victory for ACS(P) who had twice come in second in 2011 and 2010. The team, comprising 10 members and one reserve, is made up of mostly Primary 6 boys who will graduate later this year. Many of its members have also been dancing together since Primary 1.

Held annually since 1999, DanceWorks! is one of Singapore’s biggest dance competitions and enjoys a loyal following among youth in Singapore. The competition is organised by the National Council Against Drug Abuse and the Central Narcotics Bureau, and aims to promote an active drug-free lifestyle.

A total of 15 teams took part in Category 1 of the competition, for youth aged under 13 years.

Seven subsidiary awards were also presented:
Best Costume Award: Lian Hua Primary School
Most Supported Team Award: Anglo Chinese School (Primary)
Artistic Merit Award: CHIJ (Katong) Primary
Best Choreographer Award: Yutaki Ong, Anglo Chinese School (Primary)
Energizer Hi-Energy Award: Yishun Primary School
Best Props Award: Lian Hua Primary School
Pokka Most Sparklin’ Dancer Award: Andi Putra, Yishun Primary School

Danceworks! 2012 features two other categories — for youths aged 13 to 17 years, and youths aged 25 years and below. The competition for these two categories will be held in March and April this year.
