Jurong West Sports Complex, Wednesday, February 22, 2012 — River Valley High’s hopes of entering the semi-finals were dashed after their second loss in Round 2 of the West Zone B Division Netball Championship. River Valley lost 23-32 to Clementi Town Secondary as they struggled against the speed and size of their opponents.
Clementi Town has less of a problem bringing the ball to their shooter as she dominated the circle with her height, size and accurate shooting. Even though River Valley’s Goal Keeper managed to intercept some of the passes, they had trouble bringing the ball down to their attacking circle.
Yuan Ching Secondary also missed out on a semi-final place, after they fell 26-44 to Bukit Panjang Government High. It was their second consecutive loss, after they had lost their previous game against Nanyang Girls’ High.
The first quarter was close as Yuan Ching came in strong with good drives and sharp shooting. However, Bukit Panjang still managed to hold a small lead in both the first and second quarter. However, Bukit Panjang made a change in the goal attack in the 3rd quarter and they exploded to take to a 12-point lead at the end of that quarter.
In an attempt to contain Bukit Panjang’s tall goal shooter, Yuan Ching double teamed the shooter but that allowed the goal attack to take some easy shots. Yuan Ching played hard and put in good effort throughout the game but Bukit Panjang prevailed in the end.
Nan Hua High and Nanyang Girls’ High had an easier time with their matches against Regent Secondary and Commonwealth Secondary respectively. Nan Hua beat Regent 43-22 while Nanyang beat Commonwealth 57-23.
