NTU, Tuesday, January 17, 2012 — Republic Polytechnic (RP) defeated Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) 70–33 in the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Girls’ Basketball Championship to qualify for the semi-finals.

RP took charge from the start, holding NP to six points while scoring 22 in the first quarter. They led 30-15 at half-time.

RP remained aggressive in the last two quarters, keeping the pressure on their opponent and forcing numerous turnovers as they cruised to a comfortable victory.

“[Our players] tried their best although they are not as experienced as the opposing team,” said Mr Vincent Koh, the NP coach. “I wanted them to fight and to learn.”

In the other Group B game, Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) defeated Singapore Management University (SMU), 66–37.

SMU got off to a fast 5-0 start, but SIM responded with a 15–0 run to lead 15-5 at the end of the first quarter.

By the end of the third quarter, SIM had taken a commanding lead of 54-22.

SIM are favourites to join RP in the semi-finals and both teams will face each other on January 27th to see who will claim top spot in Group B.
