UAE, Monday, March 21, 2011 — Singapore lost their second leg 0-1 to Yemen and were knocked out 0-3 on aggregate in their Asian Olympic football qualifier.

The lack of a striker who can put the ball into the net was Singapore’s weakness as they created chance after chance.

Singapore’s head coach Radojko Avramoic said on fas.org.sg: “If you look at the match, we played a very attacking game. We had a very good chance with our first attack of the game but they had one chance from a cross that was going nowhere and they scored their goal. We hit the post and we created enough chances to score at least two goals, maybe three tonight. “

“For the both games here, we didn’t come to defend. We came here to attack and to try and score goals. We created many chances but we didn’t get the ball in the net.”

Singapore’s Fazli Ayob had the best chance in the first half but his attempt was well saved by the Yemeni goalkeeper while Shafiq Zainal hit the post in the second half.

Yemen scored from their only attack of the first half in the 13th minute. Singapore’s left back Shakir Hamzah misjudged a cross and Yemen’s Mohammad Al Khadeer scored the only goal of the game.

Shahir Zainal got the ball into the net for Singapore in the second half but it was ruled out for offside. Shafiq Zainal then missed a final one-on-one opportunity when he failed to hit the target with only the goalkeeper to beat.
