In the second match of the day, Pioneer Secondary School were unable to outplay their opponents SJI and went down 7-17 despite a well-fought game.

Pioneer’s good defensive work came undone midway through the second half, as they conceded tries to SJI’s Jeremiah Silva and Thaddeus Yeo.

Pioneer had earlier scored through Kishen’s try, which was duly converted by teammate Khairul Anwar to seal the points for his team.

SJI had the last word though as they scored a last gasp try through Lee Zhan Peng, who was assisted by Darius Tay. With Jeremiah Silva’s successful conversion, the game became out of reach for Pioneer.

“We stuck to our game plan and it worked. The team played to their strengths and followed the coach’s instructions and I think we did well,” commented SJI captain Joshua Toh on his team’s triumph.

“Our opponents were very good as well. They have been improving year after year, and I would say this was a strong team,” said the Secondary 4 student, on Pioneer.

SJI have a 2-1-1 win-draw-loss record and are fourth on the table. They will face ACS (I) in their next game in the B Division Championship. Pioneer have a 1-3 win-loss record and are sixth in the eight-team Group A. Pioneer are slated to play ACS(BR) next.
