Guangzhou, China, Wednesday, November 24, 2010 — Cherie Tan put in a stirring performance to capture a silver in the women’s Masters Stepladder final. The silver comes on top of the gold medal she won in the women’s Trios.

Languishing in 10th place, she rallied to finish as the third-best bowler at the end of the round-robin stage to make the bowl off where she faced off against two Koreans.

She first saw off Choi Jin A 266-191 to make the gold medal bowl off against Hwang Sun Ok. Over the course of two games, Cherie lost by a mere 10 pinfalls (472-482) to lose the gold to the Korean. Cherie had lost 278-258 in the first game but won the second 214-204.

“My hard work over the last four years has paid off, and I am glad I got the medal today,” said Cherie. “I tried not to think of how well she (the Korean) was bowling and just focused on my game and routine and let the pins drop, shot by shot. In a sense, my opponents’ performances made me up my game because they kept me more focused, as I needed to match or better their score.”

Cherie’s silver medal contributed to a bowling medal haul of one gold, three silver and one bronze (1-3-1) for Team Singapore. This is an improvement over their performance in the 2006 Doha Asian Games where they finished with a 1-2-2 record.
