SIngapore, Thursday, October 21, 2010 — The Singapore Olympic Team will be departing for the 2010 Vietnam Youth Newspaper Cup in Ho Chi Minh City today, October 21st. Singapore has been draw in Group B and will take on rivals Malaysia on Saturday, October 23rd before facing the Vietnam Under-19 squad on Monday, October 25th.

Led by coach Terry Pathmanathan, the competition will kick start Singapore’s preparations for their Olympic qualifiers scheduled for February next year.

“Most of our players have regularly featured in the Prime League and this is a good test for them to compete at a very high level against international teams. This is an excellent opportunity for the players to showcase their capability against quality opposition. They have shown a lot of determination and enthusiasm in training and I hope they will bring that into the upcoming matches. We plan to go as far as possible in this competition,” said Terry.

The Vietnam Youth Newspaper Team, along with the Olympic teams from Thailand and Myanmar make up the rest of the participating teams in Group A. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, scheduled to take place next Friday, October 29th.
