Friday, October 8, 2010 — Oon Jin Teik, the chief executive officer of the Singapore Sports Council, will leave at the end of December 2010 after six and a half years at the helm.

Jin Teik will return to the private sector where he will take on senior a management role as a group executive vice president and CEO in Hyflux.

“I would like to put on record my appreciation to Jin Teik for transforming SSC over the last six and a half years and for the pioneering work he has done in many areas that will be the foundation for our future achievements in sports,” said incoming SSC chairman Richard Seow.

“Under his watch, Jin Teik has transformed the SSC into a high performing organisation that is well grounded in public sector corporate governance principles with a nimble private sector mindset to respond to changing market needs and customer demands,” the chairman added.

Said Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, the Minister for Community Development, Youth & Sports: “I am always very happy to witness the career advancement of colleagues who have served with excellence in their current appointments. Jin Teik has played an invaluable role in the transformation of the Singapore sports scene over the past 6 years.

“However, our loss will be the gain of the private sector. Jin Teik discussed this new opportunity with me some time ago, and I encouraged him to pursue this avenue with our blessings. In his usual responsible manner, he waited until the Sports Hub project achieved financial close and the YOG transition was well underway. We are very grateful to him. I wish him all the very best for the future. “
