Singapore Sports School, Saturday, August 21, 2010 — Singapore’s Valerie Lim heads into the final leg of the Modern Pentathlon event in last place after the fencing and swimming legs.

Valerie trailed in last place after the first event, the Fencing Epee one touch. She chalked up five victories and 18 defeats, and scored 560 points for this round. Czech Alice Lencova and Spain’s Nuria Chavarria led with 1040 points.

In the swimming leg, Valerie was unable to improve her position as she finished 15th out of the field of 24 with a time of 2 minutes 26.23 seconds in the 200 metres Freestyle.

Valerie had a season’s best of 2:22.13 but her time at the swimming leg was way short of it. That left her with a total of 1608 points, 36 points behind her closest competitor.

She will now start the final leg, the combined running and shooting event, with a 2 minutes 41 seconds handicap from the leader of the pack, Hungary’s Zsofia Foldhazi.
