Tampines Bike Park, Wednesday, August 18, 2010 – Singapore’s Travis Joshua Woodford broke his personal best (PB) in the Junior Men’s Time Trial final this morning.

His timing of 4:26.65 over 3.2km shaved 11 seconds off his previous PB. He accumulated 30 points and finished 25th in a field of 32.

Portugal’s Rafael Ferreira Reis was the fastest with a timing of 3:56.64, Australia’s Jay McCarthy finished second in 3:59.63 while Denmark’s Michael Andersen finished in third with 4:00.40.

Travis appeared an unsatisfied man despite the achievement.

“This was my PB, my previous one was 4.37 something, but I thought I could do even better though,” he said.

“It was very technical,” elaborated Travis on the race route. “I’ve never tried the route before, it was against the traffic. The head-ons really vary, so it’s difficult to get into the positions I wanted. My energy was expended at these areas.”

When quizzed about his preparation, Travis said he took two years off school to concentrate on training for the Youth Olympics Games (YOG).

He had been aiming to represent the nation in both cycling and triathlon for the YOG but lost the triathlon qualifier to Scott Ang.

Travis will be competing again on Sunday, August 21st, in the Junior Men’s Road Race finals to be held at the Float@ Marina Bay at 11.30am.
