Republic Polytechnic, Friday, July 23, 2010 — The Republic Polytechnic (RP) boys suffered a 1-3 defeat at the hands of Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) in the 2010 Polytechnic-Institute of Technical Education (POL-ITE) Floorball Championship.

NYP improve to a 4-0 win-loss record while RP drop to 2-1.

The first goal was scored just three minutes into the 1st period by NYP’s Enrico Elith Abdul Lathif (#24) with an assist from Muhammad Sabri Bin Yuhari (#5). That goal set the tone for the rest of the period and the aggressive play of NYP dominated much of the 12 minutes left.

RP battled furiously for possession but their efforts failed to net any goals and they ended the 1st period trailing 0-1.

RP started the 2nd period with Mohamed Adam Bin Mohamad Y (#14) leading the charge and several goal attempts were made. But their initial surge did not last.

In the 29th minute, NYP’s Muhammad Hafik B Mohamed N (#26) shot the ball clean past the keeper to give NYP their second goal. Barely two minutes later, NYP scored again with Mohamad Alfian Bin Samouri (#11), bringing the score to 3-0.

Trailing by three goals, RP intensified their play after a timeout. Seconds later in the 32nd minute, RP got their first goal of the game via a nonchalant shot from half-court by Abdul Hadi B Abdul Haris (#9) to finish the 2nd period trailing 1-3.

The match started becoming more heated in the 3rd period as RP tried in vain to salvage the game. Despite sufficient aggression and fortitude displayed by both sides, neither were able to score and the game ended with NYP winning 3-1.

NYP coach Santeri said: “It’s always good to win games like these. RP is a good team. When you beat RP, you know that you have a strong team.”

For their next match, RP and NYP will play the Institute of Technical Education at 6.30pm on Wed, July 28th and Mon, July 26th, respectively.
