New Delhi, India, July 10, 2010 — Singapore’s 21 and Under team finished a disappointing third in the 7th Asian Youth Netball Championship.

Singapore, who set their sights on winning the tournament, had a good start, beating the tall Sri Lankans 69-49. Singapore then thrashed the last seed of the tournament, Hong Kong, 66-19.

On the third day of the championship, Singapore faced their strongest opponent, Malaysia. An outstanding performance by Singapore surprised the Malaysians and the score was level 21-21 at half-time. However, fatal unforced errors saw Singapore handing a 51-41 victory to the Malaysians.

Singapore then cruised past the hosts, India, 59-40 and defeated Thailand 60-49 to qualify for the semi-finals as the first runners-up on the table.

Singapore faced Sri Lanka again in the semi-finals but could not repeat their performance in the round robin. Sri Lanka shredded our girls’ dreams and defeated them 55-47.

Singapore then beat India 56-38 in the playoff for third and fourth.
