What do Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Cristiano Ronaldo, Franck Ribery, Didier Drogba and Fabio Cannavaro have in common?

They are all out of the World Cup. And they all featured strongly in football commercials that started running before the World Cup.

Ronaldinho, who is also in the commercial, didn’t even make it to South Africa. Neither did Theo Walcott who featured in the prescient ad titled “Fast Is Never Enough”. That’s what Fabio Capello obviously thought about Walcott and dropped him from the final 23.

“ENGLAND IN ROO-INS!” screams a tabloid newspaper in the ad. That’s probably how the English are feeling right now.

And seeing Rooney looking for a Tiger every half-time break made my literal Singaporean mind think: “See lah! Whole day drinking beer. No wonder cannot score.”
