Singapore, October, 2009 – The Singapore Recreation Club (SRC) will battle Hollandse Club in the the Men’s Division 1 Hockey Championship play-off finals on Sunday, 18 October, 7pm at Seng Kang Stadium.

SRC, boasting a team of several Junior World Cup players, have crushed most teams in the competition. On top of the table with 37 points, they are well ahead of the remaining seven teams fighting for the last three play-off spots. Having crushed the Schools Blue team 8-0 in last week’s semi-final, they will enter the final with a well boosted morale.

The Hollandse Club on the other hand had to fight hard to earn their place in the final, with their semi-final match against the Schools Red team going into golden-goal extra time. The Hollandse Club were lucky to pull through, and will go all out to notch a win at the final.

Hollandse Club’s captain Wimten Hoff was quoted on the Singapore Hockey website as saying, “There are rumours of the Dutch working on different tactics. With a full squad available, our dedicated coach and support from the stands, we might be able to do the unexpected. No matter what the result is, we enjoyed the season and that’s what ultimately counts in sports.”

In the Men’s Division 2 final, SRC will take on the Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) in yet another mouth watering clash. Having been ousted in the semi-finals last season, both teams have worked their way up to earn their spots in the play-offs. The first time that the SCC Division 2 team has qualified for the final, they will unfortunately be missing two important players who were suspended for the match. SRC on the other hand will be eager to add another trophy to their stash, having bagged the Premier League women’s crown and the men’s play-offs earlier in the year. Both teams will clash this Sunday, 5pm at Seng Kang Stadium before the Division 1 play-off.

The Police team will be looking to extend their unbeaten run all the way to the final as they take on Worldiz-Singh Sabha in the Men’s Division 3 final. The champions of last year’s Division 2 competition, the Police team will play at 5pm this Sunday, also at the Seng Kang Stadium.

Remember to catch all the action!
