So Kan Poh Stadium, Hong Kong, Saturday, October 10, 2009 – Singapore went down 17-22 to Hong Kong in their final match before the IRB Women’s Rugby World Cup Asian qualifiers scheduled for November 2009 in Singapore.

Singapore fell to an early Hong Kong try when the opposition scrum half scored from a quick penalty tap in the 7th minute. Eight minutes later, Singapore conceded a second try through another quick penalty tap.

Singapore gave a reply in the 29th minute when debutant fullback Angelina Liu scored a try but another try 10 minutes from half-time by Hong Kong saw our girls staring at a 5-17 deficit going into the break.

When play resumed in the second half, Hong Kong scored another try through Karen Underwood who completed a hat-trick of tries in the game.

Flanker Karen Yeoh made it 10-22 with a try for Singapore, sparking a late surge from her team. However they could do no better than a further penalty try and went down 17-22 at full-time.

Singapore will play off against Japan in the first round of the Asian qualifiers while Hong Kong will play Kazakhstan. Both games will take place on Wednesday, November 4th, 2009, at the Republic Polytechnic. The first game will kick off at 4pm.
