Bukit Batok Civil Service Club, Sunday, September 13, 2009 – 46 teams of competitive bowlers consisting 232 seniors from across the island pitted their bowling skills against one another in the Veteran Bowling Tournament 2009.

A popular recreational activity among seniors, bowling helps one to stay physically and mentally active. This event offered the many bowling interest groups formed by the Senior Citizens' Executive Committee (SCEC) of the different Community Clubs and Residents' Committees an opportunity to gather, compete, network and socialise.

Mr Leonard Seow, Chairman of the Marine Parade SCEC said, "This tournament gives us the opportunity to meet fellow SCEC members from all over Singapore.”

Ms Alyce Ang, Secretary for Yuhua Constituency Sports Club also felt that this event allows the seniors to foster friendship and promotes the spirit of good fellowship and sportsmanship.

Guest of Honour Dr Amy Khor, Mayor, South West District and Adviser to Hong Kah Group Representation Constituency (GRC) Grassroots Organisations, presented the champion trophy to seniors from the Bukit Batok CC Team ´A'. Seniors from the Boon Lay CC were the first runner up and Team ´C' from Chua Chu Kang CC were second runner up.

This tournament is part of the Active Agers' Games (AAG) introduced by the People’s Association. Held from September to November, the AAG is a series of competitions aimed at engaging seniors in physical activities (badminton, bowling, cycling, petanque, pickle ball and table tennis) and active mind games (mahjong, sudoku, Chinese chess and contract bridge).
