Indian Association, Monday, August 31, 2009 – Saad Khan Janjua smashed a quickfire half-century as Singapore cruised to their second win in the World Cricket League Division Six competition when they posted a 55-run win over Botswana.

The hard-hitting batsman came to the crease at a difficult time when the Republic were at 155-7 in 40 overs but his fiery 29-ball innings lifted Singapore to their victory over their competitors.

Singapore won the toss and elected to take first strike on a damp outfield. No partnership ensued and it was Khan's 73-run stand with Anish Paraam which propelled Singapore to a respectable 245 all out in their 50 overs. Khan joined Paraam and added to the score at a blistering pace as the pair's runs were scored in a mere 7.4 overs.

Khan smashed five fours and two sixes. The Ceylon Sports Club skipper was ably supported by Paraam, who contributed 47 with five fours.

The other run-makers were opener Dharmichand Mulewa with 39 in 38 balls and No.3 batsman Narender Reddy who struck a patient 40 and injected stability into the Singapore innings when wickets were tumbling at regular intervals.

In response, Botswana threatened with a 77-run opening stand in 13.5 overs but the Singapore bowlers fought back. Both Mulewa, who grabbed 6-55 in the first match, and Reddy took three wickets each.

Brief scores: Singapore 245 all out in 50 overs (D. Mulewa 39, N. Reddy 40, A. Paraam 47, S. Janjua 51, T. Trivedi 3-31) beat Botswana 190 all out in 47.3 overs (F. Rana 53, D. Mulewa 3-49, N. Reddy 3-25) by 55 runs.

Singapore, who defeated Guernsey in their opening match on Saturday will play Bahrain at the Padang on Tuesday, September 1, before facing off with Norway and Malaysia on Wednesday and Friday respectively.
