Jalan Besar Stadium, Wednesday, July 22, 2009 – After the success of last year's inaugural H-Two-O Under-14 Schools Sevens, the fiesta is back again, providing even more significance as Singapore's National Football Academy coaches look to spot new talent for next year's Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

Spread out over the two days, 48 teams from different schools with the likes of Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road), Siglap Secondary School and Whitley Secondary School, competed in the seven-a-side tournament.

The competition is jointly organised by the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) and the National Schools Sports Council and is opened to schools which finished amongst the top in their C Division zones competitions but did not qualify for the National C Division tournament.

Jita Singh, Head of the FAS Grassroots and Community Outreach, and also team manager of the recent Asian Youth Games football team was pleased with the turnout and the opportunity to possibly spot one or two new gems for next year's YOG squad.

"These boys all fall within the age group for the YOG football competition. But the boys all come from schools which just missed out on the Nationals,” said Singh. “So this tournament not only provides these boys another competition to play in, but will also provide us with another chance to look at players from these other schools and see if we can spot any new talents for the YOG squad."
