Singapore Sailors take the lead at Kieler Woche

Kiel, Germany, June 26, 2009 – Justin Liu and Sherman Cheng, Singapore’s 2006 Asian Games, 2007 SEA Games and 2007 Junior Europeans 420 Champions, are tied with British champions Phil Sparks and Ben Gratton for the lead in the 420 category after a day’s racing at Kiel Week.

Justin and Sherman came in second place in last year’s Kieler Woche 29er event.

The elite in the world of sailing are together for the 127-year-old Kieler Woche event in Kiel, Germany from 20 to 28 June 2009. Our Singapore sailors are competing at the event this week amongst the best in the world.

Griselda Khng and Cecilia Low fared well in the first race coming in fourth in the event. However they scored a BFD (black flag disqualification) when they crossed the line before the start signal in the second race. Their overall placing is 83 out of 168 boats.

Aaron Pan and Peter Wong are currently in 21st place (out of 34 boats) in the Hobie 16 class.
