Jurong West Sports Hall, Thursday, April 23, 2009 – Presbyterian High, who had surrendered weakly to New Town Secondary in the quarter-final stage, seemed to have recovered enough to brush past Anglican High 67-48 in the semi-final of the National B Division Basketball Championship. They will now meet New Town in the final.

Despite the convincing scoreline, the semi-final between Presbyterian High and Anglican High had in fact gotten off to a close start. Presbyterian High had struggled to level up to 16-16 at the end of the first quarter.

They came to life in the second quarter and started pulling away to lead Anglican High by six points. The gap kept widening in the next two quarters and Presbyterian High registered a comfortable 67-48 win at the final whistle.

In the other B Division basketball semi-final match that was going on simultaneously, New Town came back from the dead to overcome Dunman Secondary 65-62 to secure a spot in the final. Dunman had dominated the second and third quarters.

The heroes of the day for New Town were Hubert Neo (NTS, #12) and Lor Weng Siang (NTS, #9). Hubert’s 3-pointer put New Town ahead by just one point with 13 seconds left on the clock, before Weng Siang wrapped up the match with 10 seconds remaining by converting two free throws to add two more points to the score board and securing New Town’s ticket to the final.
