Kuwait, Sunday, April 12, 2009 – The Singapore national water polo team went down 6-13 to host city Kuwait in a tense gold medal match for the 2nd FINA Water Polo Development Trophy.

Playing in front of a full-capacity home crowd, Singapore trailed 1-6 in after two quarters. They outscored the Kuwaitis 3-1 in the third but could do little to stop the Kuwaitis from hitting them for six goals in the fourth to win the match.

Mr Ivan Tan, Vice President (Water Polo), Singapore Swimming Association, commented that the Singapore boys demonstrated good fighting spirit under adverse playing conditions and should feel proud that they did their best and clinched silver.

In the playoff for third and fourth place, Philippines went down 7-8 to Trinidad & Tobago.
