Jurong West Sports Hall, Friday, March 27, 2009 – Presbyterian High began their imperious march with a comfortable 88-58 first victory over Temasek Secondary in the boys’ B Division Basketball Championship in Group A.

The towering center Russel Low was a force to be reckoned with under the basket as he caught most rebounds. With Presbyterian High holding a massive 32-point lead by the fourth quarter, they had the luxury of resting Russell Low for the next game against Hwa Chong.

The North Zone champions had the best of starts as they were quick to score nine points within the first two minutes with Russel Low making his presence known immediately.

Although they didn't score for the first two minutes, Temasek were able to keep pace with Presbyterian High in the first two quarters. A 3-pointer by their #9 meant that Temasek only trailed 15-22 at the interval.

Presbyterian High came out with renewed vigour and began to impose themselves on Temasek with drives from Jun Jie who caused trouble for the Temasek defense.

In contrast, Temasek found it hard to find baskets. They were unable to score for the first five minutes of the second quarter while the North Zone champions continued to extend their lead. By the time Temasek scored, they were behind 15-35.

The half-time might have come as a relief for some Temasek players as they trailed 25-47.

The third quarter was much better for Temasek as they appeared more settled and comfortable on the ball. Khairul was turning in an inspired performance even though his team were trailing. Teammate Cabel was also played a key role.

However, this still didn't stop Presbyterian High from extending their lead. Russel Low was unrelenting from under the basket as it almost seemed like a formality for him to tip the ball in whenever he had a chance.

His contributions together with that of his teammates gave Presbyterian High a 71-39 lead at the start of the final quarter, the largest lead of the game.

Although they slowed down in the fourth without Russel, Presbyterian High were able to cruise along to end the match 88-58 victors.
