Clementi Sports Hall, September 6-7, 2008 – The Y Sparks Fencing team grabbed a fistful of medals at the recent National Minime Championships 2008.

The team finished amongst the top-eight in all the events they participated in. In particular, in the Under-12 girls’ foil event, Y Sparks had six out of top-eight finishers including a clean sweep of the medals.

Victories aside, we are proud that all our fencers are maturing and growing in their character and displayed it during the competition. They were not only fencing champions, but great cheerleaders and supporters. It was an wonderful weekend of friendship. The SPARKLERS Parents Support Group came in full force to give the children encouragement.

Our heartfelt appreciation to Coach Maria for patiently bringing the uniqueness of every individual fencer in the Y Sparks Team, developing love and friendship amongst everyone.

Coach Maria, you are amazing!

Next Up for us is the YMCA Fencing Cup 2008, the first open invitational for Benjamins (U12) and Pullets (U10). It will be held at YMCA Auditorium @ 1 Orchard Road on Saturday, 1 November 2008, and is open to fencers from all countries, clubs and schools.
