Four institutions kicked off the first round of the Polytechnic-Institute of Technical Education (POL-ITE) Rugby Championship on July 17th at Temasek Polytechnic.

Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and Republic Polytechnic (RP) looking very impressive in their first round victories over the Combined Institute Of Technical Education (ITE) and Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) respectively. TP put on an impresive display of running rugby to earn bonus points with their win over ITE while Republic Polytechnic (RP) also took advantage of an NP side lacking confidence to notch their bonus points, a reverse of last year’s situation where NP beat RP. RP finished bottom of the pile in last year’s POL-ITE Rugby Championship and it looks like another team will take that dubious honour away from them.

The second round of rugby games commences on July 21st at Temasek Polytechnic at 5pm, with NP facing TP followed by Singapore Polytechnic taking on RP at 7pm. TP go into their second match as overwhelming favourites after their impressive victory over ITE. NP will have to show greater improvement from their first game, or they will risk getting run over by a TP team looking to regain the POL-ITE championship which they lost to SP in the previous two POL-ITE editions.

In the second match of the second round, defending champions SP will be looking to kick off their first game of the POL-ITE Rugby Championship against RP in spectacular fashion. But things won’t be so easy for them after the credible RP win over NP. Although SP comes into the match as favourites, don’t rule out RP giving them a scare.
