Hey athletes,

Red Sports crossed the 200,000 unique visitor mark some time last week. Sometime this week, the site hit the 800,000 page-view mark. That means different pages on this site were viewed 800,000 times.

Red Sports has been live since 1 February 2007 and there are over 580 stories to-date, an average of 2-3 stories per day (which explains why I don’t see the sun much these days). The stories have also received over 3,100 comments from readers. Some posts even get comments running for weeks after the matches were over.

For example, check out the rugby story on the 2007 National ‘A’ Division Championship Final between Raffles Junior College and Anglo-Chinese School (Independent). It holds the record for the longest running argument with a total of 178 comments for one post.

I also conducted an online poll for the basketball players and supporters. What I thought would just be a small number of readers voting turned into flood of over 2,700 votes for 118 players. So readers are enthusiastic and show it.

We now head into the season for the 2007 ITE-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Games and the younger athletes can sit back and see what the seniors can do. The challenge of being a student athlete at ITE, Varsity or Polytechnic are different yet the same. Different because you’re older now and the pressure to succeed in life intensifies. The same because you still love your sport, and you have to juggle sport and studies as always.

No matter what, play hard, play fair. Put on that jersey with pride because the privilege of representing your school is given only to a select few. Remember this time well and Red Sports will remember with you.

Red Sports. Always Game.
