Jaime Maria Tan of the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus (CHIJ – Toa Payoh) was the early leader as she pulled away to establish a 5m-lead. However, at the 400m mark of the race, Nur Hamizah made her move together with her schoolmate Wendy Enn. Both Sports School athletes overhauled Jaime and started to pull away, setting a pace that no one could keep up with. In the last 100m stretch, Nur Hamizah led by a clear 10m to cross the line first followed by Wendy who clocked 2:32.99.
