Catholic High beat Peirce Secondary 70-26 yesterday in a second round game to virtually secure their chances of qualifying for the zone semifinals.

Yet it was Peirce who started brightly, scoring the first two baskets of the game to lead 4-0. The Catholic High team, whose average height was at least a few centimeters taller than their opponents, did not panic. Instead, they made plays for their 1.91m centre Goh Kong Tat (#15) to score two baskets to level the score at 4-4.
That proved to be the final points for Peirce Sec in the first quarter. Catholic High then raced to a 19-4 lead, with captain Jabez Su (#4), point guard Dominic Lim (#10) and Benny Lam (#12) making numerous steals and baskets.
The second quarter followed a similar pattern as the first with the Catholic High players scoring more baskets through fast breaks off defensive rebounds and steals. The score ended 41-10 at the half in Catholic High’s favour.
Since the result was pretty much academic, the second half was played at a slower pace, as both teams fielded their second team players in preparation for the coming matches.
