His closest challenge was Tan Yee Tat of Anderson Primary School who kept pace with Dubey. At a height of 1.5m, it was only Dubey and Yee Tat to slug it out for first place. While Dubey cleared 1.5m at his first attempt, Yee Tat failed on his first two attempts. However, Yee Tat was calm enough to adjust his technique to clear 1.5m on his third attempt much to his delight.

The bar was raised 3cm to 1.53m. Could Yee Tat keep up? Dubey went first and cleared 1.53m easily on his first attempt. The pressure was now back on Yee Tat to see if he could keep up. On his first attempt, he clipped the bar and the bar fell. Eager to continue, he was encouraged by the official to take his time and reminded that he had two minutes for each attempt. However, that did not calm him down enough and he failed both his subsequent attempts.

With the gold medal won, it was now a battle against himself for Dubey. He raised the bar to 1.55m and again cleared it on his first attempt. Encouraged, he tried for 1.6m but was unsuccessful all three times. "I came in second last year," said Dubey. "And I’ve been jumping for three years now."  His teammate Leonard Tay managed to capture third place with a jump of 1.4m to make it a good day for his school, Seng Kang Primary.
