Raffles Institution (RI) beat Yuying Secondary 39-0 yesterday afternoon in a South Zone game on home ground.

Raffles started batting first with their short-stop, Samuel and he managed to get in contact with a strike ball, sending the ball into the air. Unfortunately,
Yuying managed to get the ball, sending Samuel out. Ken Siang from RI also managed to hit a pitch by YuYing. It went straight to the pitcher
who stopped it beautifully. However, Ken Siang got safely on base eventually as the Yuying first base man failed to stop the ball that was thrown to him by the pitcher. Most runs were scored by free walks and stealing of bases.

The players from Yuying were not communicating well enough. Almost all RI’s runners got safe on 2nd base as no one was covering it and also because the Yuying catcher was not confident in his throw. Due to YuYing pitcher’s poor performance, their coach made their 3rd baseman (who did not have any experience pitching) the pitcher and subsequently, the catcher. Most of the pitches made by the 3rd baseman was through tossing.

The batters from Yuying were not able to hit against the excellent pitching of RI’s Hui Fu in the first inning. The inning ended with a score of 30-0 in RI’s favour.

In the next inning, there were a few strikes but one of the most prominent hits was by RI’s Ming Chan who had a three-base hit. Yuen Hyung from RI then hit a fly ball but it was caught by the fielder. Ken Siang, who was at 3rd base at that point of time, charged home without tagging the base and was put out.

Batters from Yuying managed to hit a few great shots but were not successful in getting to home plate thanks to great fielding by Ken Siang and Samuel form RI.

The game ended after 2 innings due to the lack of time and the score was 39-0 in favour of RI.
