Serangoon Junior College vs Hwa Chong Institution
Wednesday, 9 May 2007 at CCAB field
This update is provided by Red Sports reader, Mr Zhi Yong. Thanks, Zhi Yong!
Serangoon Junior College (SRJC) beat Hwa Chong Institution 3-0 in a very close and heated rugby match last Wednesday at the CCAB field.
SRJC scored their points through a penalty kick and it was pretty sad for HCI as they had dominated most of the ball possession and had two tries disallowed by the referee. There were quite a number of injuries, as both team were giving their all in this do-or-die battle. Too bad, luck wasn’t on HCI’s side despite dominating most of the game.
good job.both teams should train harder to provide more competition to the main schools in the competition.
this is coming in a bit late but credits go out to all participants in the game. as compared to the JJC ref, this ref was really good and the disallowed tries could not have been argued with much because of the solid ref-ing for the rest of the match. he didnt hesitate to give penalties to either side and was willing to scold both when talked back to.
as for the match play, both teams played well despite the poor weather conditions which resulted in a lot of drop balls from the SR inside(ajgfaskfdg!!!) and a number of fumbles here and there from both sides as well. but other than that, attacking play was good from either side as both teams managed to advance into the last 22 and retain ball possession still.
def was good, like what rugbyplayer said, even though SR was significantly smaller than HCI, we still came in hard on our tackles and were back up again quickly to def once more. the def line was strong and we held it well. HCI used their size well too and their tackles from the backs were spot on a large portion of the time and were able to hold their ground just as well.
all in all the game was a good and evenly contested one. congratulations to both teams and my condolences to HCI and good luck for next season, TRAIN HARD!
tough luck for us though because this is the last rugby comp SR is going to take part in. and for that reason, you’ll see us in the plate finals. 🙂
BTW I DO NOT AGREE THAT HCI DOMINATED SRJC THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE GAME. IT IS TRUE THAT THEY DOMINATED BALL POSSESSION PERHAPS IN THE LAST QUARTER BUT SRJC HAD OUR FAIR SHARE OF BALL POSSESSION IN THE FIRST HALF.
thank you.
SEMIS TMR I HOPE YOU GUYS WILL BE THERE TO WATCH TOO
HCI was disallowed 2 tries while srjc got 1 try disallowed. pretty nice game to watch. i realise the sr flanker kept grabbin on hci’s scrumhalf’s jersey when he wanted to go for the sr scrumhalf. is tt counted as a foul?
in terms of defending i think SR did well as HCI kept attacking and attacking and had numerous chances to kill the game. But whose the better team? not realli sure cuz it was a realli realli tight game.
actually it was SR that was disallowed a try or 2 not HCI…i think
SRJC was the better team actually HCI were lucky not to be down by more as many high tackles went unnoticed by the referee that were committed by HCI players.SRJC were definately the better of the 2 teams hands down
HCI and SRJC were both unlucky teams in the game as having watched SRJC play against JJC 2 weeks back, they were a good team and they themselves should have won that game if it wasn’t for controversial refereeing.I feel SRJC were unluckier but don’t give up HCI. SRJC really deserve this win.HCI keep your heads up.I’m sure you guys will do fine next year.
Yeah It was a super exciting and intense match. HCI were inside SRJC’s 22 for a large period of the game. HCI’s scrum and lineout totally dominate the Sr forwards. But to be fair, kudos to SRJC for their solid defending of HCI’s waves of attack. But i was wondering why HCI didnt take the penalty kick even though they hav numerous chances to do so. hmmmm. I think for that match. The HCI scrumhalf, no. 8 and SRJC standoff and no.8 are very gd!
To be honest,SRJC controlled the game rather well despite being much smaller and newer players than their opponents. Both teams played really hard.Though HCI had control of posession they could not capitalize on it due to, i must admit, solid SRJC defending especially when they’re smaller, quite a big deal smaller. Moreover SRJC made some errors in the closing minutes and gave away penalties but HCI could not capitalize on those chances due to the defending of the SR backs.Anyway,Good Job SRJCand HCI.It was a exciting match to watch thought the score should have been 13-0 to SR they could have scored a try too and missed a penalty.See you guys in the semis.
I watched the game. HCI did well, just that they were really unlucky 🙁
